Nomination Questions From Rivero Mane

  • What inspires your blog?

I am those type of people when I see or experience something amazing I want to share with others with an aim to share the positive energy and hopeful inspire their own creativity. You will notice I share my antique / vintage finds, DIY projects, or beautiful fabrics finds and where to find them.

  • What are 3 items you would take on a stranded island?

Interestingly enough I have come across this question at a finance assessment center type interview. This would have to be a pen knife, to hack down and make a little shack or utensils or cut up some food, SPF 50 cream just in case it is a hot island and keep my skin moisturized hahaha, and my phone since I need to take some beautiful views and send to friends and family hopeful rescue team can recognize what part of the world I am in and come and rescue me.

  • If you can live anywhere where would it be?

So many places come to mind; I guess I have to go with California. Such beautiful beaches there and properties look stunning on television

  • How did you come up with your blog name?

When I was a child, back in my country I loved this American cartoon called Jijjy. When I started my blog strangely enough that is the first name out of the blues that came to mind even though I had forgotten about it for a while. The character Jijjy was playful and cheeky as my partner describes me but I luck Jijjy’s elegance.  Coincidentally it makes a great nick name in relation to my official name. Maison is obviously a French word for house. I was thinking about those fashion houses like house of House of Givenchy and others. The aim was for my brand to sound classy as well as playful, the name “House of Jijjy” popped into mind. To make it quirkier I felt it would be romantic to add a touch of Francaise in the name – and Jijjy’s Maison was born.

  • What’s one of your favourite memories?

Always going to the country side during school holidays and Dad telling us stories of when they were children as well as stories passed on to him by his parents and grandparents.

  • If you can only eat 1 thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

It would have to be Ferrero Rocher. I am sure many will agree that they are delish.

  • What’s your favourite quote?

Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude. “Denis Waitley

  • What’s something you can’t live without?

Out of everything in this world, it would have to be – “Giving Love and making someone else’s life that much better”

  • Favourite song?

Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay. You have to listen to this song it is simply beautiful. Coldplay never disappoints

  • If you can trade places with anyone for a day who would it be and why?

There are so many inspirational individuals in the past and present and they all had amazing journey in life to take and made a difference in our world.  Let’s be unpredictable, unexpected and go with Eckhart Tolle. Reason being that his life challenges and how his experience led him to have an awaking, an enlighten really intrigues me. How would love to know how it feels like to such spiritual peace and calm.

Timeless Boho Chic

Warning you better get your glasses on; it is about to get pretty, colorful, and cheery in here; It’s all about Boho chic people.

There is something about Bohemian style that tends to wake up my senses, from fashion to interiors. It so earthy, and for a girl who loves nature and all its glory, we all should not be surprised.

Bohemian aka Boho culture was started by the maligned perception of Bohemian aka Boho culture is that they are rebels and are against the bourgeoisie- middle class lifestyle. Known for loathing capitalism and are pro- collectivism. I associate Today’s Boho lifestyle with spirituality.

To cut the story short and leave the gravely bits a side, you have to love the earthy tones in the style. The mode really reminds me of beautiful colors and vibes from Africa like the famous Morocco, Kenya, or South Africa; Its easy to spot those earthy tones on South American prints as well.

Here is a quick glimpse:

My last holiday was in Kenya, where I visited the sunny, vibrant towns of Nairobi and Mombasa. The atmosphere there is addictive; so many places to tour. However, my trip would not be complete without a visit to the markets where I was able to haul some fabric treasures. My favourite market is the Masai market which moves around Nairobi on different days.

If you have read my other blogs sewing bees have a few cheeky habits. Another one is to ‘see fabric, buy fabric, think of project later’. Just like in my Traid charity shop visit!! This was me …

piled up with fabrics

Only went to get 4 types of fabrics, Max. Ps- the picture is a tard exaggerated, just think a quarter of that. Back to London, I was very excited to try out some ideas with the fabrics. So here we are, at a quick glance of the first batch I made , tell me what you think. I will add to this as I go along
